Mary came to Australia with her daughter Charlotte and Maria and son John. They were free persons aboard the convict ship 'Lord Melville' which sailed from England on 15 Sep 1816 and arrived in Sydney on 24 Feb 1817. They came to join husband and father Samuel who had been transported for 14 years for possession of forged bank notes.

Mary married Samuel Gilbert on 18 May 1806 in Stepney Church, Stepney, London, Middlesex England. (Samuel Gilbert was born in 1789 in England UK, christened in 1816 on board the 'Mariner' on way to Australia as a convict and died on 20 Jun 1875 in North Parramatta, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
