Dorothy Giles (nee Dawson) (my mother) Shurte was born October 23, 1922 in Guyra and registered at Tingha, New South Wales, Australia. She changed her name legally to Shurte before she married and just before she was 21. Dorothy wasn't allowed to marry before she was 21 but nothing was said about changing her name so she bent the rules. This rule bending was done so she would be available for her lover when he returned from the war but the real reason or purpose was my dad James Shurte was afraid he would get killed in action so he figured his money might as well go to someone he felt fond of and loved. The marriage was called POD (person on death to be notified), they then married after she turned 21, as was the rule set by her parents but reviewing the facts I believe they may have fudged their paperwork dates so her parents would not discover the truth.
Dorothy Giles (nee Dawson) Shurte received her Confirmation in the Church on November 20, 1955, at Saint Georges Espcopal Church, Louisville, Kentucky by Rev. Gresham Marmiosn and Rev. Morris W. Dean. In 1961 Dorothy emigration back to Australia from America after living as a War Bride and had eight children with her husband. She Emigrated 1947 from Australia to United States of America as an Australian/American - War Bride

Dorothy married James Wesley (Jim) Shurte, son of Clarence Eugene Shurte and Mary Catherine Rethingshafer, on 6 Jul 1944 in Katoomba C of E, NSW Australia. (James Wesley (Jim) Shurte was born on 26 Mar 1920 in Liberty Township, Hamilton County, Ohio USA and died on 15 Oct 1997 in 2 Ibis Pde, Jacobs Well, Beenleigh, Queensland Australia ⁵³¹.)
