Reuben married twice and became talk of the family.
After the children's death Reuben and Annie Pauline Dawson's marriage was then dissolved. This was done by the request of both individuals and their parent's agreement. This was granted medically and religiously, and the affair was assumed to have not taken place thereafter by words used as an annulment. It was believed a problem in the ability to reproduce offspring and a healthy bloodline. This caused unforeseen trouble the doctors and clergy saw separation in marriage as the only answer. The only answer to this situation was a possible blood problem or an error due to past child adoption or by a few generations back and no one knowing of the relationship - This was only a speculation at the time and gave reason for some talk and grounds to allow annulment. Both person remained friends after this and could even state freely they loved each other but understood they had to live separate lives.

Loretta Satterly later noted:
Dawson married Annie Paulina Smith. He was descended from Dawson / Selmes. Beneath it says: Paul Shurts notes go onto comment on the marriage of Reuben and Annie but I don't think the notes are right. They were divorced but from my research their children didn't die as infants.

Reuben married Annie Paulina Smith, daughter of Jonathan Smith and Sarah Jane Giles, on 2 Jan 1894 in Armidale, NSW Australia.⁵³⁷ (Annie Paulina Smith was born in 1875 in Lyndhurst, Armidale, NSW Australia ⁵³¹ and died in 1962 in Armidale, NSW Australia ⁵³⁷.)

Reuben next married Elizabeth Janet Taylor circa 1911 in NSW Australia. (Elizabeth Janet Taylor was born in 1887 and died on 22 Aug 1938 in Armidale Hospital, NSW Australia ⁵³¹.)
