Hannah lost her left arm from the elbow down through a shooting accident in about 1906, after her hand was shot off when she stepped on a gun lying on the floor of the sulky she was riding in (source grandaughter Nola Pollard). This is evident in any photos of her, where she always has a bunch of flowers or such positioned just so that you can not see that her arm is missing.
