Johann M. Goes.
Johann Michael Goes, for more than fifty years a resident of Jefferson County, died last Sunday evening, Dec. 4, 1910, at the home of his oldest son John, with whom he spent the last years, from a stroke, of paralysis. Since last May, when he had the first stroke, he was in feeble health, but had of late recovered to such an extent that his family entertained no more fear for his life.
The decease was born in Breitenau, Bavaria, on January 5, 1826, being almost 85 years at the time of his death. in the year 1848 he enlisted in the army. After having served in the army for five years and one day, he emigrated to America in the year 1853. in the same year he was married to Miss Anna Maria Pfeffer, who preceded him in death fourteen year ago, October 14. The couple lived first near Helenville and then moved to Farmington on the farm, where his son John lives now. The union was blessed with seven children; one daughter, Lydia, who died in the year 1893.
There are left to mourn their father's death, six sons, John on the old Homestead; Leonard of Farmington; Michael, of Milwaukee; August of Saginaw, Mich.; George, whereabouts unknown, and Heinrich, of Helenville; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral took place last Thursday, December 8, at the Lutheran church east of the city at 2 o'clock and the remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, Rev. H. K. Moussa officiating.
