James Bilbrough was born James Gilliam. The baptism record (20.12.1845) li sts Ann Gilliam as the mother, but no father. It would appear that Thom as Bilbrough later adopted him and changed his name. The 1851c has him liv ing with his Grandmother as James Bilbrough aged 5, so any adoption took p lace between 1845-1851.
