Samuel Bailey

  • Born: 1890, Burnley, Lancashire England
  • Died: 1915, Dardenelles (WW1) at age 25

Noted events in his life were:

• source. Nicola Metcalfe who states:
Samuel is named on the war memorial. The War Memorial is outside the church on Accrington Road, Burnley OS ref: 103 SD832327 In Honour of our men who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1918 They died that we might live Their name liveth for evermore "To our Glorious Dead" Holy Trinity Church closed in 1989 and was converted into flats. The cross (above) which is outside the church remained. Inside the church was a copper plaque bearing 80 names of those who had died. This plaque was removed and was found in a Wigan Scrap yard in 1994 and was subsequently given to St Matthews Church. The following is a transcription of the plaque which I made from a fiche of MI's in Burnley Library. To the Glory of God and in ever grateful memory of the members of our church who died in the Great War 1914 - 1918 This tablet and the cross in the churchyard are erected.
