• Property. When he was 17 years old, Michael wrote an undated memorial to His Excellency Lachlan Macquarie Esquire, Captain General, Governor and Commander in Chief, explaining thate he had exceeded the age prescribed by Macquarie for applications for grants of land. Michael humbly requested a grant of land in such a position as the governor saw fit. Written across this document in Macquarie's hand is "60 acres".

In july 1839 Governor George Gipps made a grant of land in Campbelltown to Michael. On this land Michael built Glenalvon, an imposing two storey town house built from finely cut sandstone in the neo-classical styl.e French windows opened on to a stone flagged verandah and the house was given dignity by stone doric columns. There were four main rooms on the ground floor and on the first floor there were another four rooms with were reached by a graceful cedar staircase. The kitchen was detached and at the rear of thehouse was a stone coach house and stables. Michael was however financially unlucky and lost his fortune due to drought and evenutally mortgaged Glenalvon to his brother-in-law, John Keighran who became the owner in 1844.

Michael married Jane Agnes Warby, daughter of John Warby and Sarah Bentley, in 1829 in Wagga Wagga, NSW Australia. (Jane Agnes Warby was born on 10 Oct 1806 in Prospect, Sydney, NSW Australia, christened on 11 Aug 1810 in Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia, died on 26 Mar 1876 in Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia and was buried on 28 Mar 1876 in St Johns Catholic, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
