• Obituary. DEATH. WALKER. \emdash At his residence, Cordeaux River, on the 19th instant, after a long illness, William Walker, aged 72 years.

Death of Mr. William Walker.\emdash As was announced as a death notice in our last issue, Mr. William Walker, of the Cordeaux River, died at his residence on Wednesday last. The deceased was a resident of this district for 43 years, during the whole of which time he possessed and deserved the goodwill of all with whom he came in contact. When he first landed at Wollongong, the present town had no existence, there being only one or two bark huts where houses and streets now are so numerous. After being engaged in different pursuits in various parts of this end of the district, he settled at the Cordeaux River, where he ended his days. He was a most kind-hearted man, and had no other than the best of feelings toward all mankind with whom he had to do. Like most of the pioneers of the district, he enjoyed excellent general health, and was able to attend to his daily avocations as a farmer until within the last year, when prostration set in, and from this he never rallied, but succumbed on the day stated. His remains were interred on Thursday, in the Church of England cemetery, American Creek, the Rev. Dean Ewing officiating, and a large number of the inhabitants of the locality paying their last respects to the deceased, who leaves a widow and seven sons and four daughters, all respectable, to deplore their loss.
