Charles Augustus Healey

  • Born: 3 Feb 1883, Wombat, NSW Australia
  • Marriage (1): Isabel Margaret Smith in 1903 412
  • Died: 1965, Wagga Wagga, NSW Australia at age 82 412

  General Notes:

Shan Trethewey notes:
My name is Shan Elizabeth Trethewey (nee Healey) I am one of two granddaughters of Charles Augustus Healey, dob 3rd February,1883, son of Matthew James and Elizabeth Mary Keighran. I believe you could be a descendant of one of Charles' seven siblings.
I have discovered this by "googling Charles Augustus Healey. The site reports Charles "died 1888, aged 6"!! A slight typo I would suggest, having married my grandmother, Isabel Margaret Smith, in 1903. The year of her death was 1963 and his 1965, both in Wagga Wagga.

Isabel and Charles had four children:
Irene born ??. Died in early childhood.
Alma isobel born ?1906, died ?1980s
Marjorie "Billie" born ? ?1910, dies in late teens
Donald Graham, born in Sydney 27th April, 192, (my father), died 5th July,1949

MY grandfather was born in Wombat, NSW, but the family must've moved to Melbourne at some stage as he was educated at a Catholic College there. He became a watchmaker and jeweller and, after working in Sydney, moved to Wagga Wagga when my father was a young boy and that's where the my grandparents spent the rest of their lives.

My father, Don, served with distinction in WWII, being awarded the Military Cross. Sadly, he died in 1949 of what we now know as PTDS. I was not quite three so barely remember him.
Alma had three children, Terrence, Tony Fitzsimons and Margaret( nee Fitzsimons) Edwards.
If you think there is a family connection and are interested to find a family "resemblance", there is a fine photo of Charles and Isobel on the net, taken about the time I was born. He looks resplendent in his lodge paraphernalia - a bit ironic for someone reared and educated in a strong Catholic family!! I have memories of him being quite bigoted! I also have faint memories of his youngest sister, Aunty Ethel who, I'm sure , lived in Coburg. She used to send me 10shillings for my birthday ( 9th Nov,1946)!!

Another memory ids of Nana Healey being outraged when Tom, the youngest of the eight Healey children, married a woman with two children, whom he wanted to name Healey! As far as she was concerned, I was the önly "true" Heealey - she never really recovered from the sudden, tragic death of her only adored son, Don.

Noted events in his life were:

& Dannielle Hurley [dellehurley@people.net.au]

• connection. 412 Shan Trethewey (nee Healey)'s connection to Les, as his 3rd cousin once removed is as follows:

Shan Healey married ? Trethewey
Her father was Donald Healey (1920)
His father was Charles Healey (1883)
His father was Matthew Healey (1840) who married Elizabeth Keighran (1849)

He had Joseph Keighran (1875)
He had Leslie Keighran (1904)
He had Mary Keighran (1927) who married Mervyn Collins (1924)
They had Les Collins (1950) who married me - Robyn Bray (nee Davies) (1950)
