My Great Great Grandfather lived in a house for many years in Branston that Thomas Lovelee built (1808-1877), and very interested in info on him to help put together info on him and his family.
• Occupation. stonemason - attached photo is of Stonefield House, a tourist attraction, and bizarre Victorian folly, built by local builder/stone mason and lime burner Thomas Lovelee, (often referred to as the Monkey House), was built in gothic style at the front, but totally different round the back. (The roof has slates on the front and tiles on the back.) The house also had a stable, blacksmiths shop, saw pit, woodworking shop, grainery, paddock, wells with plenty of water etc, which was why my Gt Gt Grandfather rented it after 1904, finally purchasing in 1917 from the estate of the lase Thomas.
