Thomas died after 1856 dying outside of Australia, maybe at Sea. His whereabouts last known at Panama. In a document dated 1898 his children said they had not heard from since 1856 when he had indicated he was coming home.

Thomas married Jane Ellen Cross, daughter of Robert C. Cross and Jane Jackson, on 15 Nov 1840 in Patricks Plains, near Singleton, NSW Australia.
