The following extract is from The History of Sedgley by Underhill:-

Mr John Turner died on February 27 1874 at his residence at Lower Gornal, in the 82nd year of his age. Deceased was married three times, leaving his third wife to mourn his loss. He was buried on the 3rd inst at St James' churchyard and he was followed to his grave by upwards of eighty of his family, deceased having had 22 sons and daughters, 90 grandchildren and 152 great grandchildren. The funeral service was read by the Reverend J.Y. Rooker.

John TURNER was born about 1782 in Sedgley, Staffordshire. On 1851 census he was an a servant man. On 1861 census he was a nailer. On 1871 census he was an annuitant. He died of chronic asthma & exhaustion on 27 Feb 1874 in Lower Gornal, Staffordshire (24 Summer Lane). He was buried on 3 Mar 1874 in St James, Lower Gornal, Staffordshire.
