• Occupation: School Teacher.
• He served in the military as a Corporal, number 2775, 8th Battalion, 1st AIF from July 14, 1915 to December 18, 1918 in WW1. Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on 27 October 1915.
• He was awarded the Military Medal. 'During the fighting at POLYGON WOOD east of YPRES on 20th September 1917, this N.C.O. led his Lewis Gunners against enemy Blockhouses and Strong Posts, and under heavy enemy machine gun fire succeeded in reaching a position from which he opened fire and completely silenced the enemy, thereby enabling the other Section to capture the positions without any casualties. He showed great courage and determination and set a fine example to his men.'
