Henry Trengove
Noted events in his life were: • source. Kerry Gamble (nee Botten) • fact. Henry became heir by law to the estate upon reaching his majority (age 21). Prior to this, the Bassets Of Tehidy were his guardians. They also controlled the Nance fortune. During the civil war ca 1645, the Bassets were staunch royalists. After Cromwell's victory, Royalists suffered the loss of their estates. Doubtless, Henry was caught in the vacuum with the Basset uncles. When Charles regained the throne, the Cornish estates were returned. However, during the interregnum, no revenues were forthcoming. Much of the Cornish gentry became debt-ridden. Here is where the decline of the Nance fortune began. Henry married Luce Hele in 1650. (Luce Hele was born circa 1626.) |
