The 1785 census covers the town & parish of Frome Selwood listing the "Tythings" of Frome - the Town Tything, West Woodlands Tything, and East Woodlands Tything. It does not cover Rodden (now part of Frome) but covers Oldford, Egford, East Woodlands, West Woodlands, Fromefield, Critchill, Clink, Rodden Down, and Gibbons Moor.
It lists the "Master or Mistress of the Family", "Occupation or Employ", "Owner of the Houses", "Number of males and females in each family", "Number of cows kept by each farmer", "Number of scribblers or shearman employed by each clothier", and "Number of looms employed by each weaver".
The census was taken by Messers Battle & Cruse in September 1785. I have cross checked this census with other records of the period and found that this census, so far, has been 100% accurate. The spellings of places and names are the same as those on other records. The total results were: 1,688 families, 3,743 males, 4,382 females, 238 scribblers, 233 shearme 223 looms and 916 cows. Total human population of 8,125.
