I found while doing my research that James Maggiford Gentle was married before and had left England to come to the USA with his mother and father. He must have met Rachel Alexander there and married. His first wife's named was Ellen Elizabeth Smith. HE married her on Dec 5 1868, Parish of Church in the County of Surrey, District of Farnham.They were living in Paddington, Borough of Clayborne, London, England in 1871.
I noticed in 1901 she is still living in England with her parents in Farnham, far after James Maggiford Gentle was in the USA and re-married. Oddly she is using the name Mrs Gentle in the census. This means she may have been abandoned by her husband or thought she was a window.

Ellen married James Magifford Gentle, son of Jonathan Gentle and Elizabeth, on 5 Dec 1868 in District of Farnham, London, Surrey England. (James Magifford Gentle was born on 7 Sep 1845, died on 6 Jun 1925 in United States of America and was buried in 1925 in Elmhurst Cemetery, Bright Sand, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada.)
