My Grandfather William McIntosh Leslie was Thomas's brother. In Thomas' Death Extract his wife Mary stated "he changed his name before marriage". Our family story says Thomas jumped ship and then changed his name.
William and Thomas parents were John Snow Leslie and Mary McIntosh.
The McIntosh family are very difficult to untangle especially in the early census.
The Leslies can be traced back to 1755 quite easily.
