• fact. Mark worked for the railways for 52 years, mostly as a signalman at the Luton West signal box. At the time of his marriage in 1914 Mark was already a signalman living in Coleswood Road, Herpenden Herts. At some time after the marriage he and Hilda moved to Beech Road Luton. and for the rest of his working life (totalling 52 years) he manned the signal box at Luton West. He was well thought of by his superiors and could probably have progressed to stationmaster. He was offered promotion but was dissuaded from accepting the offer by Hilda, whose wishes he invariably obeyed. Mark bought his burial plot on 18th of April 1966, one month after the death of his wife Hilda and 5 months before his own death. He is buried in the Grave Space numbered 7926 (Type: Earth Class 2) on the plan of the LUTON GENERAL CEMETERY
