James III of Scotland 1451'96 52c '96 11 June 1488, the son of James II of Scotland and Mary of Guelders, was Duke of Rothesay from birth, then King of Scots from 1460 to 1488. James was an unpopular and ineffective monarch owing to an unwillingness to administer justice fairly, a policy of pursuing alliance with the Kingdom of England and a disastrous relationship with nearly all his extended family. James married Queen Margaret of Denmark in Jul 1469 in Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh Scotland. (Queen Margaret of Denmark was born on 23 Jun 1456 in Denmark and died on 14 Jul 1486 in Stirling Castle, Stirling Scotland.) |
