Samuel James
General Notes: Records show that Samuel was known as Samuel James the Younger. On the 26.11.1797 at the age of thirteen Samuel did a very silly thing, he stole some money from a Samuel Miler. He was charged on the 29.11.1797, convicted and sentenced to seven years transportation on the 05.03.1798. He was held on a hulk until the 12.02.1802, then put on the "Perseus" which sailed for NSW arriving on the 04.08.1802. His time expired in 1805 but he did not receive his Certificate of Freedom until the 09.06.1810. In 1817 he became a Police Constable, and in 1820 he was the constable and pound keeper at Baulkham Hills. Samuel was granted 80 acres of land on the 13.01.1818 which faced onto Showgound Road. He still had the land when the census was taken in 1828. (Ann Bean was born on 12 Nov 1789 in Westminster, London, Middlesex England, christened in 1799 on board the 'Buffalo' on way to Australia, died on 11 Mar 1854 in Baulkham Hills, Sydney, NSW Australia and was buried on 14 Mar 1854 in St Johns C of E Cemetery, Parramatta, Sydney NSW Australia.) |
