  General Notes:

Don Nicol notes Growing up in Aberdeen Scotland in the 50's we often visited Portsoy where, as your site correctly indicates, George Stuart Begg Nicol had had the baker's shop and it was still going in those days and for all I know may still be in the family. I remember Aunt Peg, doubtless Peggy Troup in your pedigrees and we would also visit the ruins of the croft and rope & sail making business at Back Green. The ruins are still there today I believe. The Hoggies Farm at Deskford where the earlier Nicols tended to be born was on the market last year.

& Your ancestor George Nicol is not the only George Nicol to come to Australia.
After the War my father's cousin George Nicol from Portsoy came out to Australia. He worked in Australia for quite a few years, then he and his wife returned to Scotland where they had a farm nr Wigtown, before retiring finally to Portsoy where he died.

George married Mary Hay Reid, daughter of John Reid and Elsie Findlay. (Mary Hay Reid was born on 13 Dec 1885 in Buckie, Morayshire Scotland ¹¹⁴ and died on 7 Mar 1968 in Portsoy, Banffshire Scotland.)
