William was a convict. At 22, he was convicted of stealing 'with force of arms' two linen handkerchiefs valued at two shillings and goods and chattels of 'other persons unknown'. William was sentenced to seven years transportation on 27 Jun 1788 at Clerkenwell Green Quarter Sessions, Middlesex, England. He spent almost three years in prison of in one of the hulks before he sailed aboard the ship 'Admiral Barrington' which departed Portsmouth in 1791 and arrived at Port Jackson on 16 Oct 1791, the last of the eleven ships of the Third Fleet to arrive in Sydney.
The Surveyor General's notebook for 1796 details a 60 acre block for William. Governor Phillips's policy was to allocated 30 acres to 'worthy' convicts on the expiry of their sentence. Twenty further acres were given for a spouse and ten acres for each child. The grant is situated near the present Pendle Hill Railway Station around the intersection of Binalong and Darcy Roads.
The 1800 Muster recorded William as free and farming 15 cleared acres of land at Toongabbie. The Kentwells were neighbours of Thomas Williams and Ann Davis.
By 1806 William had 75 acres and was assigned a convict servant - Lawrence Kirwan. He was now a prosperous small farmer and a member of an association of like-minded emancipists known as the Association of Settlers.
William and seven others drowned in the /Nepean River near Windsor during a flood. He was returning home after purchasing horses for the Government when the accident happened. Elizabeth now aged 31, was left with 6 children, t he younge st being just a few months old.
Green Hills, comprising in 1809 a Church, Government Stores & a wharf, was renamed Windsor by Government Decree dated 8 Dec 1810..





William married Elizabeth Morris on 4 Jan 1796 in St Johns C of E, Parramatta, Sydney, NSW Australia.
