DEATH OF MR A B ROBINSON
Organist for nearly 50 years
Mr Arthur Benjamin Robinson, of Eighth Avenue, a church organist in Bridlington and district for nearly half a century, died on Wednesday.
Mr Robinson was only 14 when he became organist at St Hilda's Mission Church, when it was the chapel of ease for Christ Church. When Emmanuel church was built and the work of the St Hilda's mission transferred there he became the first organist of the new church, and later took up the duties of choirmaster.
After being organist at All Saints' Church, Nafferton, and St Oswald's Church, Flamborough, Mr Robinson was appointed organist at Priory Church in 1919.
During his career he gave nearly 2000 recitals in the villages and in Bridlington.
In 1939 Mr Robinson became choirmaster at The Priory.
Because of ill health Mr Robinson resigned as organist and choirmaster in 1947.
He became a member of the Bridlington Amateur Operatic Society in 1920, and was honorary accompanist until the last show in 1928.
When the Glee Union was formed Mr Robinson was accompanist for a number of years. He was vice-president of the Bridlington Ladies Choir, a founder member and former treasurer of the Music Circle, and had been on the committee of the Bridlington Amateur Dramatic Society.
He was also a founder member and past president of the Rotary Club of Bridlington and had been a freemason for many years.
