General Notes:
Ann Jackman notes: Henry & Maria Ford and their family sailed for Sydney with Maria's sister and her husband, Ann and James Cross, from Plymouth on Saturday 12 May 1849 as assisted immigrants on the Victoria of 588 tons, Captain John Carphin, Master. She was built in Nova Scotia in 1846. With safe passage from the Downs, she made Sydney on 2 September, 112 days out, delivering her cargo of 288 immigrants and such commodities as salt, hats, iron anvils, coal, marble, cordage, and bricks. Maria was seven months pregnant. They travelled to the Hunter and, by 1851, Henry and Maria were employed at the Fullarton Cove Estate as house and farm servants to 'Gentleman' John Smith on a salary of £10 per annum plus rations. Because of a disagreement over wages, they departed after 18 months for Clarence Town, part of which then went under the name of Irish Town, where they settled on St Leonard's Farm, leasing land from William Lowe, builder of the William IV steamship. They later rented land at Glen William from Thomas Holmes.
On 1 February 1869, Henry Ford purchased 1,600 acres from Harris Nelson for £600 and named it Holbrook Estate.
