  General Notes:

Immigration

Per Mermaid (of the White Star Line), sailed from Liverpool to Melbou rn in 87 days ..... 12 weeks and 3 days .... Did this mean they came by t he faster, but colder and more dangerous sub-forties route??

A clipper ship built in 1853, John McDonald, St John's, Nova Scotia. Dimen sions 188'0"x34'3"x22'5" and tonnage 1321/1233 tons. [1106 GRT, 1077 NRT a nd 1032 tons under deck] Partly fastened with iron bolts and classed sev en years A1 at Lloyd's Register

1853
Launched at the shipyard of John McDonald, St John's, Nova Scotia for Jo hn & Arthur McDonald, St John's.

1854
Sold to Pilkington & Wilson, Liverpool, and was put on the White Star Line 's Australia trade. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 6024 and sign al JMCP.

1856
Voyage Liverpool to Melbourne 87 days ..... left Melbourne again in Mar ch 1856 for Liverpool .... therefore the ship must have left Liverpo ol in late November or early December of 1855. Captain was Edward Deve y. At least one other native of Gosforth travelled with John & his fami ly ... William Wainwright born abt 1835 who probably travelled with his fa mily given his age.

So the Creighton's travelled on a very modern, up to date, (and presumabl y) comfortable ship. This is consistent with them being unassisted immi grants.
