I am trying to find out about Frederick John Saville Trethowan b 1872 in Ballarat, VIC who came to South Africa sometime before 1899. According to what I have found he married a Phoebe Jukes in Australia had a son Herbert Trethowan who was born in Durban, SA in 1906.
The connection to me is through my Great Grandfather, Andrew William Michelson - also from Ballarat.
I think Andrew might have come to South Africa with Frederick or at least came afterwards and met up with Frederick.
Frederick Trethowan was the witness at my Great Grandparents marriage in Umkomass, Natal Colony in June 1899 and he was also Godfather to my Grandfather at his baptism in Johannesburg in 1903.
My Great grandfather left South Africa and his wife and 3 young children in 1906 and returned to Australia never to be seen or heard of again. We have found out a lot about his life and he eventually died in 1937 in Tasmania.

Andrew was 4 years younger than Frederick but Andrew had 2 older brothers who would have been more of an age. According to some Ancestry Trees Frederick married a Phoebe Jukes - no record of this in the Victoria BDM's though. Of course this might have happened here in South Africa as well. To make my search easier, would you know what religion the Trethowans were? If C of E, I could check the Church records. There was a son Herbert, I would find him as well.......(if this Tree is accurate!).
