• source. Doug Hooper who notes: He was an Engineering student when, on 19/7/1915 he enlisted in the 9th Field Company Engineers with the rank of Corporal. In November 1916 he proceeded overseas to France and whilst there, was promoted to Sergeant. On 24/11/1917 he was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field.
During World War II he re-enlisted and was attached to the Royal Army Engineers Training School where he attained the rank of Captain.
