  Research Notes:

Jan Jozsa notes:
John and Mary Oliver lived in various places including Mt Bolton near Ararat, Victoria and finally at Stawell in north central Victoria. In each place John worked as a miller but like his sons, he was insolvent more than once owing to the vagaries of crops, wheat prices etc in a harsh and struggling colony.
John Duncalf Oliver and family arrived in South Australia from London on board the Henry Porcher on 1 July, 1838. Sarah Porcher Oliver was board en route, hence her middle name.

Noted events in his life were:

• source. Norm Harris who notes:
a miller operated the steam mill at Portarlington
& Jan Jozsa notes:
he was employed as the manager of the Bellarine Flour mill in 1858 (the first on the Peninsula) but it burnt down in 1861 which is also about the time John and co moved to Mt Bolton. The Port Arlington Mill, which still stands, was built soon after and the two were in competition with each other.

• emigrated. 294 John Duncalf came to Australia via South Australia on board the Henry Porcher on 1st July 1838 and then moved across to Victoria. Sarah Porcher Oliver was born en route, hence her middle name
