Emigrated 19 June 1822 aboard the Convict ship "Caledonia" from Portsmouth. Arrived 6th November 1822 Hobart, Tasmania Australia


The Hamilton Spectator "regrets to learn that Mr. (Charles) John Carter, the well-known squatter, of Rosebrook, died on Saturday, October 9, at the advanced age of 78, and was buried in Horsham on the following Sunday. The deceased was 39 years in the colony; he was 31 years in the Wimmera district, and he was the first settler on the Glenelg River."

Arrived in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia as a soldier guarding convicts. After a certain amount of service in army he was granted land. Wrote to Thomasina and encouraged her to immigrate and marry him 23/03/1829. First children born in Tasmania. Later took family to Melbourne, Victoria and later to Brimpean, Horsham, Western Victoria. Became wealthy squatter. Died Horsham, Victoria, Australia 1875.
