Arthur Chapman notes:
At the time of John Kingham's murder he was living at Newells Farm (Studmore Farm) with his grandson Herbert Kingham. One day while John was at the market, his wife Susannah walked out on him, taking most of their possessions with her and disappeared to Luton in Bedfordshire. She reappeared at his funeral, identified the body, and gave evidence at the trial at the Boot Beerhouse, Bledlow Ridge. The coroner noted that she did not appear too grief stricken, she said that she had not lived with the deceased for some time, she thought he was about 57 years of age (he was 65). Two brothers, Richard and John Avery were charged with the murder, but there was not enough evidence to convict them. John's brothers, Charles and George, sent money from Australia for his headstone. According to the 1881 Census he owned 44 Acres and employed 1 Boy
