Thomas wrote in 1849: "some of the family left England about 250 300 years ago for Americda and the whole Binney family had buried in Worksop for 200 to 250 years, their native place. I understand our family came from Scotland, my father and undle were reticent about their ancestors. The Dukes of Norflk own 'Worksop Manor", in Worksop and it is thought our family came from Scotland, through their influence. Thomas Richard and John were family names for a long time back. It is possible that John Binney, of Hull, Mass, USA in 1680 may be the one who left for America".
