Research Notes: Joseph left on the 15 August 1917 from Wellington, New Zealand on transport No 92 arrived in Glasgow, United Kingdom and arriving the 2nd October 1917. He left the United Kingdom on the 23rd October for France. On the 16 November 1917 Joseph was wounded in action in France. He was admitted to No 3 General Hospital. Out of hospital on the 21 January 1918 and rejoined his unit at Abeele in Belgium 24 February 1918. On the 5th April 1918 Joseph is beleived to be a Prisoner of War. It was reported in the Otago Daily Times on the 27th July 1918 that Joseph Barton Pearson, New Zealand Rifle Brigade was officially a Prisoner of War in germany, location no known. On the 9th August 1918 he was reported to bea at Parchim, Germany. On the 6th December 1918 he was released from captivity and reported to New Zealand Headquarters in the United Kingdom and was granted eight weeks leave. On the 11 March in Portsmouth,Hampshire, England he embarked on the S.S. Raranga for New Zealand where on the 27 May 1919 he received his Certificate of Discharge from the army. Josef married Eugenie Catherine (Jean) McCormack, daughter of Michael McCormack and Catherine Martha Joyce, in 1919 in Sydney, NSW Australia.57 (Eugenie Catherine (Jean) McCormack was born in Jan 1883 in Hokitika, Ross Parish, Westland, West Coast New Zealand, died on 7 May 1961 in Chatswood, Sydney, NSW Australia and was buried in Macquarie Park Cemetery, North Ryde, Sydney, NSW Australia Memorial ID# 145714391 57.) |
