CONNOR / O'CONNOR FAMILY IN AUSTRALIA

There is a book entitled "Probably Usefulness" which was compiled by Sister Rita King and the O'Connor clan form part of this history.
The family dropped the O in their name because of the persecution of Catholics in Ireland and resumed the O again later in Australia. It is difficult to follow the generations as well, because of the repeated given names.
Basic information
Moses Connor and John Connor came to Australia around 1830. John left his wife and child behind as he fled the country rather than suffer any further persecutions at the hands of the British.
They worked in Sydney then moved north to the Morpeth / Dungog area where they both gained employment.
Moses Connor married Anne Farrel at Glennie's Creek in 1840 and had Mary Anne born 21/3/41, John born April 1834 and Michael 22/6/45. They had three more children who died due to poor conditions
John and Moses moved north to Ipswich to work in the coal industry in Moreton Bay. John met and married Mary Murphy, an Irish governess. and married 15/8/1854 in Ipswich
The Connor men could not settle and heard of a gold strike at Rocky River (Uralla) and took some months to cover the nearly 500 kms where they set up their claim and staked their land. As the gold discoveries declined, the moved into logging and shearing sheep.
My side of the Connors / O'Connors
Moses Connor had a son John Connor who worked at the "Laura" Sheep station near Bundarra.
He married Jane Elizabeth Curtis on 9/3/ 1864. Jane (born 8/11/1844) was a midwife and served the community as needed.
They had 9 children - Mary Anne Aug 1866, Jane October 1868, Elizabeth 30 August 1870, Michael Ernest October 1872, Moses December 1874, Ellen Caroline 11 Aug 18876, John 14 Feb 1879, Anastasia 7 October 1880 who died before her first birthday, and Florence Kate 6 June 1883.
The O was restored about this time and they became O'Connor
John O'Connor (born 14/2/79) married Mary Emma Fishlock (b 21/3/1882) on 24 April 1904 in Bundarra. They had 10 children
