  General Notes:

Bob Thompson notes:
General Notes: WHO WERE THE FENCIBLES?
The Royal New Zealand Fencible corps were retired soldiers from Britain and Ireland, often referred to as 'Pensioners', who enlisted as a military reserve to act as a 'defence force' for the protection of the early settlers in the fledgling town of Auckland, New Zealand.
There were over 2,500 men, women and children who arrived in New Zealand during the years 1847 - 1852.
They settled in the now south and eastern suburbs of Auckland, namely Onehunga, Otahuhu, Panmure and Howick. In return for availability in case of attack and attendance at parades, the Fencibles were provided with a cottage and an acre of land which after seven years service they would own.

Died 5th August 1879, Henry Deery, Pensioner.
Some highlights in his life were:
• He immigrated Arrived "Sir George Seymour" on Nov 26, 1847 to Auckland, New Zealand.
"Sir George Seymour" passengers were fencibles from London, England with a few of County Cork, Ireland.
Major John Gray (Grey), 40th Regt (commandant RNZ Fencibles) commanded the 4th Detachment of pensioners of the Sir George Seymour, most of whom settled in Howick.
Banan, John 1814 SCT - 1852 Howick Should have said Barron
Banan, Elizabeth (remarried) nee Deery
Banan, 3 children
Deery, Henry 1796 QNS IRE - 1879 Parnell
Deery, Catherine (Curtain) 1818 FRMY IRE - 1896 Parnell
Deery, 4 children

Jim Webster notes:
I am more interested in Elizabeth Deery who may or may not be related to Henry Deery, the most probable relationship is that of brother and sister, however i can't find anything that links them. John Barron and Henry Deery both Fencibles served in different units and they may have known each other in Limerick.
I now believe that the early John Baron Children were born in Scotland, see the 1841 Census record attached. It appears that Elizabeth Deery was Bridget Deery and changed her name later on.

The attached Poverty Relief document are most probably Henry Deery that went to New Zealand the entries commence shortly after his marriage and conclude before he went to New Zealand.

Henry married Unknown before 1833.

Henry next married Catherine Curtain, daughter of David Curtain and Margaret, on 30 Jun 1833 in Limerick, Ireland UK. (Catherine Curtain was born in 1818 in Limerick, Ireland UK, died on 8 Apr 1896 in Parnell, Auckland New Zealand and was buried in Symonds St Cemetery, Auckland New Zealand.)
