Brass Founders' Gang
This gang generally numbered seven, plus two or three apprentices from Carter's Barracks. The work involved the moulding and finishing of brass of all descriptions required for public buildings, as well as casting iron for all wheels and mill work, particularly for treadmills.

I don't know if this William Marshall is the same one who married Sarah but there is a good chance he is so have included this in his notes.

THE BRAZEN ROBBERY _ Yesterday, five men, named Marshall, Crisp, Webster, Timmins and another, all freed men, were brought before the Police Court charged as principals, receivers, or accessories to the stealing of twelve brass sheaves from the Dockyard. From the evidence adduced it appeared that all the persons were well acquainted with the premises from which the sheaves had been stolen, that two of them had offered them for sale at 2 pence per lb; the persons to whom they were offered being told that the sheaves were not "square", but "on the cross"; having declined making a purchase they were afterwards disposed of to Mr Marshall on whose premises 6 of them were found. When Timmin's place was searched a number of lumps of metal were found there, of which the whole weight was within 5 lbs of that of two of the missing sheaves. Timmins having previous to the execution of the search warrent, distinctly stated that he had no brass on his premises; Crisp being proved to have effected a sale of the property found in Marshall's house; and Marshall for receiving the same; the three were committed for trial; the other two persons were discharged and made approvers of.
