John Burns was born, probably in Litchfield, N.H. 22^nd Nov. 1781; died in Madison, Maine, 3^rd July 1867. He was a son of Robert an Mary (Smith) Burns of Bedford and Litchfield N.H. and grandson of John and Ann (McQuistion) Burns who had 12 or 16 children. The place where the children were born is not shown in the notes of our correspondence but we may presume that they were born in Madison, Maine.

John married Polly (T) Gray, daughter of John Gray and Betty Boynton, on 16 Nov 1807. (Polly (T) Gray was born on 13 Jan 1785 in Wiscasset, Maine USA and died on 18 Sep 1855 in Madison, Maine USA.)
