If you go into Avoca surf club, upstairs you 'll find a memorial plaque to my Mum's sister Beryl who drowned here aged 12 with her best friend one day, when a huge wave swept out everyone on the beach. They saved everyone but the 2 girls, so the Surf Club was built in response to this awful day. She was Aunty Fanny's niece and the other siblings were Alan (or Alex we think), Harry, Jessie and Stanley - they are all gone now except for my Mum, who has a spirit like a phoenix!
