My grandfather's name was August Zoeller who came to Australia at the age of about 17 years. He lived in the Sydney area and died at his home in Lugarno in August, 1945 a few days prior to the end of World War II.
The authorities tried to intern him in the First World War but his wife, Madeleine Edith Clare (Smyth) appealed as she had five children to support, the eldest of which was my mother, Thekla Lisette Zoeller (later married in 1936 to James Pope Hamburger).
