  General Notes:

source: Edward to Dylan ged. & Lynne Harley who notes:
I am researching my family history and in particular my great uncle Hugh Alexander Sibbald who was born in Edinburgh in 1911 to Mary Scott Minto and Hugh Alexander Sibbald. Although Hugh's father name is on his birth certificate he played no active part in his upbringing, saying that, neither did his mother. His mother married another man and Hugh and his sister, May, were brought up in Edinburgh by my great grandparents David Grant Minto and Mary Scott.
When Hugh was 26 he married a girl from Edinburgh called Martha Thompson Dickson and they subsequently moved to Byfleet in Surrey, England where they raised a family. Hugh worked for an engineering company until his entry into the REME in 1941. Hugh was killed in action in France on 17 June 1944.
After Hugh's death the Minto family lost touch with Martha, she remarried and from what I understand from my mum, Martha shipped the children off to Australia after the war. I think that the Hugh Dixon Sibbald on your tree is the son of my Hugh Alexander Sibbald.
It always bothered the Minto's that the children were shipped off to Australia and my mum made an effort to try and locate them some years ago but came up blank. My mum and aunts always talked about Hugh having daughters but never a son, so no one has followed that line of research.
Before the war, my grandparents used to visit Hugh (senior) in Byfleet, with my mum, aunt and uncle, as part of their annual holiday. My mum was only 9 when the war started in 1939.
I noticed from your website that Hugh Dixon Sibbald married and had children and I would love to make contact with them if its at all possible. I don't know how the Sibbald's fit into your family history and would be grateful if you could confirm that your Hugh Dixon Sibbald and my Hugh Dickson Sibbald are one in the same.
