Walter William (Will) Nicol

  • Born: 2 Oct 1850, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia
  • Christened: 24 Nov 1850, St Davids Presbyterian Church, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia which is in the Parish of St Peters
  • Marriage (1): Mary Lucy Collett on 6 Feb 1874 in Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia
  • Died: 11 Oct 1927, Appin, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia at age 77
  • Buried: Congregational Cemetery, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia (now adjacent to the catholic school)

Noted events in his life were:

• source. Diane Meckinsh : Death Certificate of George Nicol
& "Bakers, Bishops and Bushrangers" by Robert J Williams

• known as. William or Will

• Occupation. Will was a horse teamster and at one time worked for his nephew Charley Nicol carting timber from his sawmill.

• Property. 139 On 20 Mar 1899 he purchased Lot 1 of the Macquariedale Estate (his father had purchased Lot 5 forty-five years earlier) for 500 pounds and established his own farm. The vendors were James Thomas Collett of Queanbeyan and Joseph Collett of Gunning. Will's wife came from a Collett family but it is not known whether she was related to the previous owners. (I, Robyn, also wonder whether this is the same Arthur Collett who was the nephew of Elizabeth Sutherland who married my great grandmother ?) Over the years he bought other but smaller properties in the Appin area. He made his will on 16 Aug 1919 leaving his property to his then unmarried daughters Minni, Amy, Maudina and Dulcie, and a smaller block of land to Maudina. He appointed Minnie and his son Walter George Phillip Nicol executors of his estate.

Rae King later wrote to me to say:
I came across your site whilst looking up Joseph Collett, my late husband's grandfather, and noticed that the above couple purchased Lot 1 of the Macquariedale Estate from James Thomas Collett of Queanbeyan and Joseph Collett of Gunning, on 20 March 1899, and wondered if Mary Lucy was related to the vendors. She was in fact a sister of these two men, whose parents were Phillip Collett and Lucy Bean.

Walter married Mary Lucy Collett, daughter of Phillip Collett and Lucy Bean, on 6 Feb 1874 in Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Mary Lucy Collett was born on 26 Jul 1846 in C of E Parsonage, Appin, NSW Australia, died on 9 Jan 1920 in Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia 83 and was buried in Congregational Cemetery, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia (now adjacent to the catholic school).)
