Lieutenant Frederick Neville Lipscomb was awarded the Military Cross on 11 April 1918:
This officer was in charge of a platoon which took part in the attack on BOIS DE MANGARD on the morning of 7.4.18. On emerging from the wood Lieut. Lipscomb had with him 4 men and he immediately joined Lieutenant Storkey and 6 other ranks in attacking a large enemy party about 80 to 100 strong, and strongly armed with machine guns. Throughout the attack he displayed fine courage and personally killed eight of the enemy, capturing their machine gun; he then continued to kill and disarm the remainder of the enemy in conjunction with Lieut. Storkey, showing utter disregard for his own safety and greatly inspiring the small party of our men assisting in the attack. This successful attack on the enemy by such a small party was responsible for the capture of 5 officers and 50 men, and a machine gun, and removed a dangerous obstacle to the advance of our troops on the right.
