John Sherwood, one of 401 convicts transported on the ship Glatton, September 1802.
Sentence details: Convicted at Bedford Assizes for a term of life on 16 July 1801.
Vessel: Glatton.
Date of Departure: September 1802.
Place of Arrival: New South Wales.

John Sherwood arrived as a convict on the "Glatton" on the 11/3/1803.
John and two others were found guilty of stealing sheep at Lidlington on 6th April 1801 and sentenced to hang. One did hang but John fortunately had his sentence commuted to Life imprisonment and transportation. He was described as being five foot nine inches tall, with a dark complexion and dark brown hair. He arrived in Sydney Cove on the "HMS Clatton" on 11th March 1803, and was assigned to Thomas Dight at Richmond. After receiving his Conditional Pardon on 31st January 1815, John commenced farming on rented land initially in the Windsor district and then at North Richmond, before purchasing a sixtyacre property at Kurrajong Heights which he called Gardenwood Hill.


John married Ann Lane circa 1812. (Ann Lane was born in 1788 in Briston, Gloucestershire England and died on 13 Nov 1838 in Kurrajong, NSW Australia.)
