From what I can determine Uncle Bill was gassed or similar in WW2.

Their father was Joseph Melton Richards. His father is an unknown black man. (hard to track down a short affair).

Joseph married Eliza Mary Ann Williams, daughter of William Williams and Mary Ann Mewett, in 1897 in Newcastle, NSW Australia. (Eliza Mary Ann Williams was born in Nov 1876 in Lake Macquarie, NSW Australia,⁸⁶⁰ died on 14 May 1956 in Wauchope, NSW Australia and was buried in Port Macquarie, NSW Australia.)
