• source. Doug Hooper who notes: He was 18 years old when he enlisted in the 17th Battalion 6th Reinforcements of the Australian Army. Whilst serving in France he received a gun shot wound to the foot which resulted in his right leg being amputated and his being discharged on medical grounds.

John married Alice Olga Caller in 1921 in Mosman, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Alice Olga Caller was born circa 1900.)
