• source. Doug Hooper who notes: He enlisted in the 1st Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade of the AIF on 22/8/1914. Following a shrapnel wound to the knee received at Gallipoli, he was discharged as medically unfit on 14/9/1915. He subsequently returned to Australia after having his leg amputated in England. He was supplied with an artificial limb.
