Benjamin Scott Hooper

  • Born: 2 Mar 1977, Northern Community Hospital, Prospect, South Australia

Noted events in his life were:

• source. Doug Hooper who notes: Ben spent three years as a member of the Student Representative Council at the Valley View Secondary School and for two of those years represented that group on the School Council. He was highly regarded by most of the school staff and often approached them as an advocate for individual student's concerns and complaints. Those qualities have followed him into adult life and he is always helping others. He won the award in Year 12 as the top student in Computing.

After leaving school, Ben gained employment with Telstra and by the age of 23 he had established a very successful career within that organisation. However, dissatisfaction with management policies led to him taking a redundancy package in September 2000.

He undertook a course of training in Close Personal Protection and, at the time, was the only South Australian to have completed that particular course which qualifies him as a Body Guard.

His work with Tourism SA on the Year of the Outback project has involved extensive travel throughout Outback South Australia and has brought him into contact with entertainers in the Country Music arena including Slim Dusty, Lee Kernaghan and John Williamson, as well as people involved in tourism in the Flinders Ranges. He was actively involved in the organisation of the Cattle Drive from Birdsville to Maree and participated in the entire drive. He has also been involved in the preparation for the Outback Eclipse project.

Photographs he took whilst on the Cattle Drive were selected by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to feature on one of their annual Christmas Cards.

In September 2003 he commenced work in the Marketing, Fund Raising and Event Co-ordination area with the Royal Society of the Blind in Adelaide. He completed an office relocation for the South Australian Department of Health and also for the Environmental Protection Authority.

He is now the Assistant State Manager, Ministerial & Parliamentary Services with the Federal Dept of Finance & Deregulation.
