He is buried at the Centennial park cemetery. At the time of his death he lived at Unley. He was a Coach Builder of Eastwood, SA when, on 21/8/1916 he enlisted in the 10th Battalion, 22nd Reinforcements of the Australian Army. He served in France and was wounded on two occasions, the first being when he was treated for Shell Shock. He returned to Australia on 30/8/1919.

John married Mona Muriel Dickson on 13 Apr 1920 in Eastwood Methodist, South Australia. (Mona Muriel Dickson was born circa 1900.)
