The name Rofs appears in each census up to the 1901 census [2], so it does not seem to be a long 's'. In the 1881 census there were 4 in Renfrew, Scotland. In the 1851 Census there are 12, of whom 9 were born in Leicestershire.

The name does not seem to exist now. If it did originate with Ross being written as Rofs with the long 's'? In 1841 the use of the long 's' had not yet died out in handwriting. In an entry on the 1861 census the enumerator has written "drefs maker." As to when this way of writing died out, it must have been a gradual process as people who wrote that way in their youth are not likely to have changed their ways through to old age.
