• source. Doug Hooper who notes: . He applied to the Royal Army Chaplains Department on 3 August 1915. He passed the medical and was accepted. He was described as a 30 year old widower of c/- Dr Robertson, Althorpe, Doncaster.. He was described as 'like Rowan.' He volunteered for anything and in 1915 joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in Egypt and later went onto the hospital runs from Egypt, Salonica and Malta. From 1917 to 1919 he served in France.

26th July 1916 from the ship Dunbarton Castle contract ends 17 August and sent to Netley to finish year before retiring to vicarage. Report 16 January 1919 - Satisfactory.
